SPOTLIGHTS: INVESTING IN THE UNDERINVESTED
Social movements such as Black Lives Matter, as well as the coronavirus pandemic, have highlighted enduring inequalities in many countries across the world. The investing community is no different, and many in the industry are agitating for change, hoping to funnel more investment to those communities who have lacked the investment required to spur growth. In this series of spotlights, we talk to experts in BAME investing, gender lens investing, the ESG landscape, and microfinancing, to discuss how to catalyse real change.

SPOTLIGHT: INCLUSION AS A GLOBAL INVESTMENT IMPERATIVE
The Covid pandemic has highlighted and magnified deeply rooted inequalities in societies across the world.
In the US, Black communities have long suffered from a lack of investment in their social services, infrastructure, and businesses. The resulting gaps in wealth as well as education and health outcomes have rendered these communities highly vulnerable to economic shocks.
Systemic racism is at the root of our tolerance for inhumanity and a driver for the persistent gaps across social and economic outcomes. We need truth, healing, reconciliation and a disruption of racist capitalism to get the American economy fully able to maximize its potential and serve as a model for the world.
A direct and highly effective way to close social, economic and health gaps is to invest in talented Black entrepreneurs and fund managers. We must also change the conditions in government, commerce and community that prevent innovation, growth, exchange and more. If we remove these barriers, reckon with our past, and partner across industries and ideals, we will generate extraordinary financial and social returns that will benefit us all.
In this session, we will explore how to achieve this goal, by bringing together a group of social capitalist, influencers of culture in entertainment, and business-building platforms that share this vision. Indeed, could Inclusion become the next big global investment imperative?
